This actress has won several National Film Awards for Best Actress, but she is neither Kangana Ranaut, Vidya Balan, Tabu, or Dimple Kapadia

The most prestigious award an Indian artist can get in their career is the National Film Award. Nargis was the first person to win the National Film Award for Best Actress when it was originally established in 1967. The most recent winners are Alia Bhatt and Kriti Sanon, who were chosen for their outstanding roles in Mimi and Gangubai Kathiawadi, respectively.

That actress is none other than Shabana Azmi, who has received the most National Film Awards for Best Actress. Shabana has received five awards for her strong and compelling performances throughout her career. Her first National Award was given for the 1974 release of Shyam Benegal’s first picture, Ankur. The seasoned actress then accomplished something that no other actress has ever done before: she won the prize three times in a row.

For her roles in Goutam Ghose’s Paar (1984), Mrinal Sen’s Kandhar (1983), and Mahesh Bhatt’s Arth (1982), Shabana was awarded the National Film Award for Best Actress. Vinay Shukla’s Godmother, which won many National Awards in 1998 and was released in theaters in 1999, was the final movie for which she was honored.

Regarding other notable winners, Kangana Ranaut shares the triple crown with South Indian actress Sharada, having won it three times. Throughout their careers, Tabu, Smita Patil, Shobana, and Archana have all received this honor twice. Dimple Kapadia and Vidya Balan have only each taken home a single National Film Award for Best Actress.

Regarding her career, Shabana Azmi starred in R. Balki’s sports drama Ghoomer and Karan Johar’s love comedy Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani last year. The kissing sequence she had with Dharmendra in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani received a lot of praise and attention.
