With a time of 1:19:43, Uttarakhand’s Suraj Panwar, who finished in second place, also beat the 1:20:10 qualification standard for the Paris Games. Panwar is the fourth Indian to earn a spot in the Paris Olympics for the men’s 20-kilometer race walk.

Vikas Singh and Pramjeet Bisht had also earned spots in the Paris Games in the Asian Race Walk Championships held in Japan the previous year.

A nation is only allowed to send three competitors in an individual track and field event to the Olympics, and the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) will now decide which of the four race walkers qualifies for the Paris Games.
