In 2014, Swastika Mukherjee attended a film festival in Singapore. She was allegedly seen stealing earrings from a mall shop without paying for them when she was there. Moments of her putting the earrings in her suitcase were recorded on CCTV. The actress, however, insisted that she had bought the earrings and even produced a receipt as evidence.

The earrings had a maximum value of Rs 12,000 rupees. Adamantly denying any wrongdoing, Swastika Mukherjee said there had to have been a misunderstanding. She said that she did not intend for the situation to occur.

In 2001, Swastika made her big screen debut in Hemanter Pakhi. In 2004, she rose to prominence in Mastan, playing the main role. In 2008, Mukherjee also ventured into the Hindi film industry with Mumbai Cutting.

In 1998, at the age of eighteen, Rabindra Sangeet singer Sagar Sen’s son Promit Sen wed Swastika Mukherjee. Sadly, the marriage was turbulent and ended after only two years. Promit was allegedly physically abused by Mukherjee and kept out of their house when she was pregnant. She accused him of being abusive and of requesting a dowry. Later on, these accusations were dropped, and Promit was declared innocent.

eventually, in an affidavit that she eventually turned in to the court, Swastika acknowledged that the charges she had leveled against Promit had been “unfounded, false, baseless, and speculative.” Later, she acknowledged at a press conference that her accusations were untrue. Promit was thus found accountable for Rs 7.7 crore when her brother filed a lawsuit against her in the Calcutta High Court, seeking damages. According to Mukherjee, Sen first sought for divorce in 2000 but changed her mind after becoming successful as an actress. She has one daughter, Anwesha, who was born in 2000, from their marriage.
