India has been in control of the series ever since they bowled out England for 218 at the beautiful Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium. India now leads the series 3-1.

Zak Crawley dropped a superb catch at the backward short leg, giving Captain Rohit a life on 68, but it was the closest England had to a breakthrough before lunch.

With Rohit on 102, his second century of the series with three sixes, India led 264-1 at the half. Between the two, Gill was the more aggressive, hitting five sixes in his outstanding 101 not out.

From the first ball, the overnight hitters attacked the bowlers.

When Gill came out against James Anderson and whacked the most successful fast bowler in test cricket over his head for a six, it was the one shot that perfectly summed up their strategy.

Rohit flicked the ball to spinner Shoaib Bashir, but before the fielder could even cup his hand, the ball shot past Crawley.

In the following over, Gill slog-swept Bashir for a four to achieve the hundred-run mark, after Rohit had taken a single off Tom Hartley to get his hundred.
