Dharmendra posted a video of himself lip-syncing to a performance of the ghazal by the late singer Mohammad Rafi from the 1960 movie Lal Qila. He shared the video on his X account. The video now has a Hindi caption written by Dharmendra that reads, “I’m sitting here telling my family members the truth about life. My admirers don’t notice me depressed.

Bahadur Shah Zafar composed the ghazal first when he was banished to Rangoon, which is today in Myanmar. He reluctantly signed his name to the rebellion of 1857, but the British prosecuted him for treason and sent him to Burma, where he died. In his last hours, Bahadur Shah Zafar cut a sad figure. The fact that he could not even be buried in his beloved country’s “two yards” was bemoaned in his eulogy. The ghazal in question fervently defends his suffering at being apart from his homeland and loved ones. The song Lagta Nahi Dil Mera from the 1960 film Lal Qila has a ghazal.

In terms of Dharmendra’s profession, he has contributed to over 300 motion pictures over his six-decade tenure. His most recent appearances were in the Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon-starring ensemble films Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani, both directed by Karan Johar.
