Indian Boxer May Lose Olympic and Asian Games Medals Following Several Whereabouts Failures

An Indian boxer’s Asian Games gold and Paris Olympics quota might be taken away after she received a notification from the International Testing Agency (ITA) for several whereabouts failures.

The boxer neglected to report her whereabouts during the time leading up to the continental multi-sport competition. If found guilty, she might lose her Asian Games medal and Paris Olympic quota in addition to a possible two-year penalty that could be lowered to a minimum of one year based on the severity of her error.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-249428″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-the-dharamsala-crowd-is-devastated-by-virat-kohlis-failure-to-score-his-record-tyi.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com the dharamsala crowd is devastated by virat kohlis failure to score his record tyi” width=”1411″ height=”790″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-the-dharamsala-crowd-is-devastated-by-virat-kohlis-failure-to-score-his-record-tyi.jpg 300w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-the-dharamsala-crowd-is-devastated-by-virat-kohlis-failure-to-score-his-record-tyi-150×84.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1411px) 100vw, 1411px” title=”Indian Boxer May Lose Olympic and Asian Games Medals Following Several Whereabouts Failures 3″>

The Asian Olympic Council enlisted the aid of the International Anti-Doping Agency (ITA) to operate the anti-doping program at the Hangzhou Asian Games, including the Results Management procedure.

However, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) is certain that the situation would be resolved favorably.

“The federation learned about the notification only after the Asian Games, and it covered the time before the Games. The fighter was mentally unstable at the time since one of her parents had just been given a dire medical diagnosis, a BFI official familiar with the situation told PTI.

“The BFI legal team has been notified, and it is investigating the situation. As we will explain the cause of the failure, there shouldn’t be a problem (like taking away the medal or Olympic quota), the official said.

Athletes who are a member of the Registered Testing Pool (RTP) must give a quarterly report on their location.

The WADA rules state that “any combination of three whereabouts failures (filing failure and/or missed test) within a period of 12 months constitute an anti-doping rule violation, for which the applicable sanction is 2 years’ ineligibility subject to a reduction to a minimum of 1 year depending on your degree of fault.”

The Indian boxing team returned from the Olympics with five medals, including a silver earned by world champion Lovlina Borgohain in the Asian Games, and four Olympic quotas—all in the women’s divisions.

The Asian Games, which were completed earlier this month with 107 medals from the nation’s athletes, including 28 gold, were India’s best-ever result.
