The new Mullanpur stadium is ready for the IPL match

Will the Punjab Kings’ championship drought be ended by the new stadium in Mullanpur? With the first major event set to take place at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, all eyes will be on the Punjab Kings, who will be playing at their third home stadium since the team’s founding.

The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) is set to make history on March 23 when Punjab Kings take on the Delhi Capitals in their Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter. With this game, the PCA will embark on a new path by hosting more international matches there in the future. The stadium, which can hold 35,000 people, is ready to host the event after more than ten years and a few controversy.

Formerly known as Kings XI Punjab, the Punjab Kings have formerly called IS Bindra PCA Stadium in Mohali and HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala home for their home games. The franchisee originally said that it would hold three home games in Nagpur in 2016, but it eventually moved to Dharamsala. Since 2008, their home field has been the Mullanpur Stadium.

Practice begins.

The Punjab Kings players have begun their practices at the stadium, led by captain Shikhar Dhawan. Dhawan referred to the team’s new stadium as their “lucky charm” during the jersey introduction. With six victories, the squad placed eighth in the previous edition. Harshal Patel, meanwhile, is probably going to be crucial in pacing the team’s offensive this season. Supporters of his admission include Kagiso Rabada, Sam Curran, a local boy, and Arshdeep Singh. Chris Woakes and Rilee Rossouw are the new-ball and top-order backups, respectively. For the squad, the greatest pick-up options would be Sikandar Raza and Rishi Dhawan, who have both played domestic matches here.

No news on “Yuvraj stands.”

In Mohali, the PCA dedicated two stands in 2022 in honor of former cricket players Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh. But in the “pavilion” stands of the new arena in Mullanpur, only Harbhajan’s name is mentioned. Sources claim that the PCA administration has not yet decided who will succeed Yuvraj.

A grand opening is scheduled.

Additionally, according to sources, the PCA was organizing a gala opening for this stadium. “We’ll make it an unforgettable occasion, no doubt. The PCA secretary, Dilsher Khanna, said that the arrangements had already started. Underprivileged and particularly abled youngsters would get free admission, as the group has previously determined.

Rishabh Pant is expected to return.

Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, who was involved in a potentially fatal vehicle accident in December 2022, will return to the field. On March 23, he will probably lead the Delhi Capitals here.
The 1,500 m section from Togan village to the stadium is being developed by GMADA. A two-lane road is being enlarged to a three-lane width in place of the four-lane PR4 road being constructed.
Most of the tickets have been sold, and a sizable audience is anticipated for the game.
There are 1,620 parking spaces, 16 gates, 8 ramps, 21 elevators, and 6 pavilions at the new stadium.
The Punjab Government and PCA representatives are expected to meet on March 20 to discuss the development work that is being done around the stadium.
