Imad Wasim of Islamabad United was discovered smoking in the locker room during the PSL 2024 championship

Imad Wasim, of Islamabad United and a former all-rounder for Pakistan, may have been the player of the match in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final when he became the first player to take five wickets in the match against the top. But his on-field exploits weren’t the only thing that made headlines—a video of him sharing a few smokes in the locker room went viral.

When the cameraman panned his equipment to the United dressing room in the 18th over of the Multan Sultans’ batting, Wasim, having finished his stint of 5/23 in four overs, was seen to be smoking. When the videographer saw Wasim smoking, he swiftly removed his equipment from the United changing room, but not before the footage and pictures of the incident had gone viral on social media.

Imad’s valiant efforts in the championship game extended beyond merely his use of the ball; United also needed him to use the bat to win the match. Sultans managed to reach a decent total of 159 runs despite losing wickets on a regular basis, while Islamabad United also had a collapse in their middle order and needed Naseem Shah in addition to Imad Wasim to save them.

Azam Khan was the only middle-order batsman to have any type of score going before Imad and Naseem brought their side home as Islamabad United became the first club to win three PSL championships. Martin Guptill’s half-century set the stage for United. Conversely, the Multan Sultans, who had made it to the top match four times in a row since 2021, lost in their third straight final.

After participating in the playoff eliminator, Islamabad United became only the second team, after Sunrisers Hyderabad, to win a tournament final.
