<p>According to a Times Now article citing a source, Jaya Bachchan personally called producer Sajid Nadiadwala and informed him that using their family names for his film would not be appropriate. The producer said that changing Bachchan’s spelling in the title could be the only thing he could do.<br />
The Bachchans were displeased because Shri Harivashrai Bachchan, the pen name of the Bachchan family, really goes by Shrivastava. They thus believed it was inappropriate to use for a movie. As a result, the movie’s title was abruptly altered.<br />
When Akshay was questioned about the movie’s title during its marketing, he responded with a joke, saying that he came up with it after seeing Abhishek Bachchan and Chunky Pandey together.<br />
Ultimately, the movie proved to be a failure at the box office. The 2014 Tamil film Jigarthanda, which in turn drew inspiration from the 2006 South Korean film A Dirty Carnival, was officially remade as “Bachchhan Paandey.”</p>
